What Type of TV Aerial Should I use in Kildare
Maria asks;
I wanted to get an aerial off you. I live just outside Naas towards Rathangan. What Colour Group Aerial do I need?
Our answer;
The first thing to decide is if it the Analogue of the Digital signal you are interested in getting. Given that the Analogue signal is going to be turned off by the end of 2012 if you are investing money in a TV Aerial it is best to the focus on future and go for a Digital TV setup.
So which Aerial ?
If you look at the map of Digital TV Transmitters in Ireland you will see there is a number of options for people who live in North Kildare and you can pick up from
- the Kippure (Wicklow) tranmitter - which requires a White Wideband UHF Aerial
- or the Carin Hill (Longford) transmitter which requires a Yellow Group B UHF Aerial
- I would guess that the Kippure transmitter is what you would use
If in doubt you could always buy a high gain UHF TV aerial which will work equally well with any transmitter, or a low cost wide band UHF TV Aerial which will work reasonable well across the UHF range and therefore suits all transmitters (but not as good as a grouped or high gain aerial)
Buying it as a Kit ?
You can buy a TV Aerial kit. Your 2 main options are which is to buy it either with or without a Digital TV receiver:
- Wideband UHF TV Aerial Kit
- which consists of the TV Aerial, bracket and TV Aerial installation kit
- will suit anyone who already has an MPEG4 TV (which is digital TV ready)
- can add shipping note to specify which group of UHF TV aerial you are going to get (wide band is the default)
- Digital TV Receiver & TV Aerial Kit
- as above but comes with a Digital TV Receiver for the Irish Channels
