What TV Channels Can I get on Free to Air TV in Ireland
Pat asks;
What TV channels can I get on Free to Air TV in Ireland?
Our answer;
Pat, as free to air in general refers to the UK Satellite TV channels that are broadcast without the need for subscription, we will deal with that first. There are hundreds of both free to air TV and radio channels out there broadcasting from a range of satellites.
In general people in Ireland will be pointing their dish at Astra 2. This will allow the user to receive the likes of the BBCs, ITVs, C4, E4, More4, Film4 etc etc but not any Irish channels as they are encrypted by Sky for their platform. You can see a list of what channels you can get on our pre-programmed free to air boxes below.
There are many more available but on our pre-programmed boxes we have stripped out some of the chaff and re-ordered the channels to a more convenient format for our customers. You can always add additional channels manually if you desire after purchase.
The other free to air TV system in Ireland which officially launched in Oct 2010 is called Saorview. This is the name for the domestic free to air TV channels ie. RTE1, RTE2, TV3, 3e, TG4, RTE News Now. You will need a Digital TV receiver to pick these up.
Of course if you want the best of both worlds, you could get a Combo Receiver and get both Irish & UK Free to Air TV Channels on one box.
