OVERVIEW OF S10 Satellite Meter
The Smart S10 satellite meter is the ideal for either a professional satellite dish installer or committed DIYer.
Note: the meter now comes with an On/Off switch on the buttom of the unit
The main features of the satellite meter are:
- It comes preprogrammed with over 70 satellites
- Its 10cm LCD screen allows video from the satellite to be watched on the meter
- It has a Spectrum analyser
- It has a range of DiSEqC features
How to charge up a Smartmeter S10 on first use
Before using the meter for the first time in operation, the battery must be fully charged.
- Turn the meter off, if it is not already turned off.
- Plug in the charger
- Put the plug of the external power supply into the low-jack on the underside of the instrument.
- Charging time
- When charging for the fisrt time, charge the battery for up to 5 hours.
- The maximum charging time is 12 hours.
- The power LED indicates the battery charge level:
- Green: the battery is charging
- Red: the battery is fully charged
- note light may not go red - simple stop after max charge period
Battery Safety
- Never connect the two poles (+ and -) with each other
- Do not store or operate the battery above 40°C
- Do not burn or otherwise damage the battery.
- Do not bring into contact with water.
- Store the Battery between 0°C and 40°C
- For longer storage, charge the battery every one to two weeks to avoid deep discharge.

How to Align a Satellite Dish
- Connect a cable terminated with F-connectors from the S10 meter to a Satellite dish
- On the S10 meter
- Select the TP Search option
- Press the MENU Button.
- Use the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item TP SEARCH
- and confirm your selection with the OK Button.
- Select the Satellite you wish to find
- In the menu TP SEARCH menu use the use the ▲ and ▼ to select the required satellite e.g. 'Astra 2 (28.2E)'
- Press 'OK'
- On the Transponder Search menu You will see 3 bars displaying
- Signal Strenght
- Signal Quality
- Ber Value
- Align the Dish by:
- Rotate the satellite dish until the Q value appears on the screen
- As the signal qualilty increases the bar will will become large and change from Red to Green
- Also the volume and rate of the Beeping will increase
- When you have achived a reading of e.g. 90%
- Verify your alignment by
- Pressing 'F2' to choose the 'Watch TV' option
- This allows you to view the satellite channel
- scroll between channels for this transponder
- Press 'Exit' to return to the 'Transponder Search' Menu
- Check other transponders (normally not necessary)
- Use the buttons ◄ / ► to select another transponder
- Repeat steps 6-7
- Bolt the dish into position - ALIGNMENT IS COMPLETE !

Satellite identification
There is a feature to allow you to figure out which satellite an existing dish is pointing at called 'SATELLITE IDE'.
- Connect a cable terminated with F-connectors from the S10 meter to a Satellite dish
- On the S10 meter
- Select the Satellite Identification option
- Press the MENU Button.
- Use the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item SATELLITE IDENTIFICATION
and confirm your selection with the OK Button
- On the 'SATELLITE IDENTIFY' menu
- the meter automatically works every possible satellite and then
- identifies which satellite it has found e.g. 'Astra 2'
- returns 'SATELLITE NOT FOUND'
Package control
This feature allows you to look at the Signal Quality and Strength of each individual transponder that is found on a satellite.
- Connect a cable terminated with F-connectors from the S10 meter to a Satellite dish
- On the S10 meter
- Select the Package Control option
- Press the MENU Button.
- Using the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item Package Control and confirm your selection with the OK.
- Press the OK button to display a list of satellites.
- Select a satellite with ▲ ▼
- Press the button F3 the L-DiSEqC port.
- Press the button F4 the LNB-type.
- Now you can read the Signal strength (S) and Signal quality (Q) of the Transponder
Once you are in the list press the button ► or ◄ to scroll page by page back or forward.

DiSEqC search and Motor Search
I have grouped these features together as they both relate to as situation where you are picking up a signals from multiple satellites either by
- having a large satellite dish with multiple offset LNBs
- Mulitple dishes feeding into a Diseqc switch
- A motorised dish system
DiSEqC Search
- Press the MENU Button.
- Using the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item DiSEqC Search and confirm your selection with the OK Button.
- Press the button F1 DiSEqC port.
- Press the button F4 the LNB type.
- The DiSEqC search begins automatically.
- At the appropriate ports is displayed, which satellite each received.

Press the button OK directly to the menu Transponder Search .
DiSEqC Motor Search
- Press the MENU Button.
- Useing the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item DiSEqC Search engine and confirm your selection with the OK Button.
Setting fields - Using the buttons ▲ and ▼ move to one of the four Setting fields
- Selecting and using the buttons ◄ and ► You can Select Settings: Satellite, Transponder, LNB Type and DiSEqC Port
- Signal display
- Here the values Signal strength (S), signal Quality (Q) and BER(BER) are displayed.
- Rotate dish
- With the keys F1 or F2 you can use the satellite to the West and turn east.
- Watch for turning the green display. This shows you whether you the corresponding satellites
Watch TV
- Connect a cable terminated with F-connectors from the S10 meter to a Satellite dish
- On the S10 meter
- Select the 'WATCH TV' option
How to use the compass feature on the S10
Another great feature of the S10 satellite meter is the built in compass feature which you could use when picking a location to locate a satellite dish for assisting in the alignment of a TV aerial.
- Press the MENU Button
- pen Main Menu.
- Press Exit.
- Press F1 to select the compass option
- The built-in compass is displayed.
- Put the S10 smartmeter on a horizontal surface.
- Turn the S10 smartmeter on the lying area a few times back and forth to calibrate the compass
- The red tip of the compass needle always points north
Meter Settings
Another feature of the Smart S10 satellite meter is that it allows you change the number of settings from the setting menu.
- Press the MENU Button.
- Useing the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item SETTINGS
- confirm your selection with the OK Button.
- The 'SETTINGS' menu allows the
- OSD Transparency (1-10) - how bright the screen is
- Signal Audio Tone (On/Off) - to control beeping
- Volume (0-100%)
- Language (choice of 12 languages)
- Factory Reset - return meter to default settings
Calculation of Correct Satellite Dish Angle
- Press the MENU Button
- pen Main Menu.
- Press Exit.
- Press ANGLE to select the Angle option
- On 'ANGLE CALCULATION' menu
- Satellite - select the satellite you wish to find e.g. Astra 2
- Longitude Angle e.g. 6 degrees
- Longitude direction: West
- Latitude Angle e.g. 53 degrees
- Latitude direction: North
- Note co-ords above are for Athlone in the middle of Ireland
- Scroll to 'Angle Calculation' and Press 'OK'
- The S10 calculates the following reading
- Azimuth: 40 degrees
- Elevation: 21.5 degrees
- Pol: 23
How to capture video and screen shots
nother pretty amazing feature of the S10 meter is that it can be used in conjunction with a USB key to allow you both capture video footage and take screen shots of a satellite channel.
Capture Video
- Open Main Menu.
- Press Exit.
- Press F4.
- The TV picture is taken (if a compatible USB disk is connected).
- Press the EXIT button to stop recording.
- Recorded programs can be called up via the USB menu again and will play.
Save Screenshot
- If you have a USB disk, you can at any time take a snapshot of the current screen contents
- Press the decimal point button the message Catch Picture appears.
- On the disk, the current screen contents as a bmp file are stored.
View Video or Screenshots
- Press the MENU Button.
- Using the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item PC Update
- confirm your selection with the OK Button.
- View either from
- 'All Src' Menu for videos or screenshots
- 'Movie' menu for videos
- 'Picture' menu for screenshots
Spectrum Analysis
Another feature of the S10 satellite meter is that it allows you to do a detailed analysis of signal coming from a satellite.
- Press the MENU Button.
- Use the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item Spectrum
- Confirm your selection with the OK Button.
- In this menu you can check the entire spectrum of the different Transponders
- Press the button F1 the LNB to be checked out.
- Turn the key F2 22KHz On or Off.
- Press the button F3 from the polarization.
- Press the button F4 on verification of satellite.
PC Update
You can download the software under the attachments tab
It is possible to upload new software into the S10 satellite meter using the USB port. The 'PC UPDATE' menu allows you to manage this and also to access data such as video footage and screen shots which are stored on a USB Key
- Press the MENU Button.
- Use the buttons ◄ / ► and ▲ / ▼ select the menu item PC UPDATE
- Confirm your selection with the OK Button
- press the Menu PC Update button F2 to OPEN the USB Menu
- In the USB Menu, all files will be shown that are stored on the attached USB KEY
- To Update the Software version that the S10 satellite meter is using
- Using the buttons ◄ ► to scroll to the Software tab
- Use the buttons ▲ and ▼ to highlight the file *.bin
- Open these with the OK Button.
- Would you like to upgrade the Database
- click on 'Yes'
- This takes about 3-40 seconds
- should then prompt 'Successful'
- When asked Reboot ?
- click on 'Yes'
- The meter takes 15 seconds to shut down and reboot with the new software
