Getting Saorview and Freesat on One Receiver in Ireland
Fergal asks;
Can I get Freesat & Saorview on one receiver in Ireland?
Our answer;
Fergal, strictly speaking, unfortunately not. It really is the holy grail of receivers but in reality it probably will never exist because it is just not worth the time and money for manufacturers to invest in because of our relatively low population.
However, if you like many others are in fact using the incorrect terminology, then it is possible. What you could actually be asking us is if it is possible to get Irish digital TV (Saorview Channels) and free to air satellite TV (Freesat Channels) on one receiver and if that is the case then the answer is a resounding yes.
Freesat is different to free to air and you can read up on that at the link below.
It's often confused with freeview also and this is also explained.
If you were actually asking about the free to air and digital tv option then a Satellite Combo Receiver is probably what you are after.
We sell different types with different features which is reflected in the pricing.
There is actually an approved saorview combo now on the market which can get the free Irish and UK channels. This box has mheg5 which means that you can access the new Irish digital teletext system. The box is more expensive than the generic combo receivers which do not have the mheg5 feature.
