Tom asks;
I'm looking for a box for freesat and the DTT in one. EPG , weekly programmes, text for all channels. hope you can understand what I want?
Our answer;
yes I understand but what you want but what you need is a miracle - as no such box exists !
You have 2 choices
1. Combo UK & Irish Receiver
- Receiver: combo receiver
- Complete Kit: combo receiver kit
Pros:
- A single box solution
- It will work anywhere in Ireland
- It gives all the free Irish & UK channels
- It is PVR ready (if you add a hard drive you can record, rewind, pause live TV)
- 7 day EPG works on Digital Terrestrial (Irish) channels
- Relatively low cost solution
Cons
- needs a feed from an Aerial & a satellite
- there is no Teletext
- EPG on satellite is only now & next
- Need to add an external Hard drive
2. Two Receivers - Saorview (Irish) & Freesat (UK)
2a: Freesat:
Pros
- comes with 7 day EPG
- comes with a range of prices and facilities
- standard design and automatic channel tuning and updates
- Subtitles, teletext etc work perfectly
- on the Freesat+ model you record (2 programmes at once), pause, rewind, series link
Cons
- It only has the UK channels
- Freesat+ boxes are more expensive than generic free to air satellite boxes
2b: Saorview:
- Saroview & Digital Terrestrial TV receivers
- You must go with a receiver with MHEG5 middleware for all teletext, subtitles
Pros
- comes with 7 day EPG
- standard design and automatic channel tuning and update
- Subtitles, teletext etc work perfectly
- It is PVR ready (if you add a hard drive you can record, rewind, pause live TV)
Cons
- It only has the Irish channels
- Saorview boxes are more expensive than generic DTT receivers
3. Saorview & Freeview option (Limited Range)
If you live along the East coast or the border then combining UK Freeview and Saorivew (both work off UHF TV aerials) may be option.
To see a kit, UK & Irish TV Transmitter map and technical information go to
- Freeview Aerials Kit
- note: to get best you may need to change out our generic receiver for a Freeview+ receiver which we do not current stock
4. Get a Saorview Approved Combo, it's the closest to what you are looking for but in reality, it still won't meet all your needs
