How to set up a sky box and TV Aerial to be viewed from 4 different rooms
Pat asks;
I am looking to install a new aerial, but also want to send sky and and Irish analogue or digital TV around to 4 rooms in total,
I have being told that I could put the sky box in the loft and connect it to an amplifier and will then be able to watch and change sky channel in any room without having a sky eye,
Can you please tell me what items I need to buy and some tips if possible.
The only thing i have is an aerial mast, I would need everything else new.
Our answer;
For sure you can combine sky and an aerial into a single cable.
You can do this 2 ways:
Option 1: In you living room (if you have enough cables)
- Put the sky box in your living room
- run aerial into the back of the sky box ('Aerial in' socket)
- run cable from back of sky box ('RF 9volt out')
- feed distribution amplifier to feed the 3 other rooms
- each of the 3 other rooms can have a sky eye
Requirments: need 3 cables (4 if you have a sky+ box) in your main living room
Option 2: Loft way (if you don't have enough wires in wall)
- Put the sky box in the attic
- run aerial into the back of the sky box ('Aerial in' socket)
- run cable from back of sky box ('RF 9 volt out')
- feed distribution amplifier to feed the 4 rooms
- each of the 4 rooms can have a sky eye (at 1 least must have)
- Requirements: Each room only needs 1 wire
General comment
- never use face plates in a room you wish to use a sky eye in - always hard wire with f connectors & Joiners
- Never use coaxial joiners (loose signal / 9volt power)
What to Buy
- 4 way tv amplifier with bypass *1
- sky magic eye * 1-4
- f connectors * 8-10
- f joiners * 0-4
