How to Run Two Satellites to a Single Satellite Receiver
It is common to want to combine the output of different satellites onto a single satellite receiver. For example by combining the feed from 2 satellite dishes or a single satellite dish with mulitple LNBs (see video) pointed at Astra 2 and Eutelsat for example. This is achieved using a Diseqc switch which takes 2 satellite feeds and produces a single output.
Benefits of Using a Diseqc switch
- It combines the output of multiple satellites into a single feed
- It allows seamless switching between satellites from your remote control
EQUIPMENT (Such a system would typically contain the following)
- A single 80cm satellite dish with LNB holder containing
- Single LNB for Astra 2
- KA Band LNB for Saorsat
or
- another use might be;
- A sky 60cm satellite dish with a single LNB (for Astra 2)
- An 80cm satellite dish with a single LNB (Hotbird)
- A 2 way Diseqc switch
- A diseqc enabled satellite receiver such as any modern HD satellite receivers
- Note: Non-diseqc enabled satellite receivers must use a Manual A-B switch to combine 2 satellites
- Note: 99.99% of modern satellite receivers will have diseqc functionality
How to Install
Part A - Connect up the dishes, diseqc and receiver
- Firstly align the satellite dish(es) and LNB(s) using a satellite meter
- Run a feed from a satellite cable which has been terminated with an f-connector from each of the satellite LNBs to the Diseqc switch and connect them to 'LNB A' and 'LNB B' respectively.
- Run a satellite cable from the Diseqc switch to the receiver
- It is important to ensure that the satellite receiver is wiped clean as the channels must be tuned, in conjunction with the diseqc switch for it to operate correctly.
Part B - Programme up the box
- See video above for how to do this
