How to add a Sky Magic Eye to a Satellite Receiver with no RF Out
Mick asks;
I have a openbox receiver in my sitting room working fine need it 2 work second tv in bedroom has no rf out only lnb out i brought cable from lnb out but wont work on tv. would the sky magic eye work or whats the best way 2 work it off secound tv
Our answer;
firstly just a few things to be aware of:
- very few boxes now come with an 'RF OUT'
- even if they do have an 'RF OUT' very rarely do they have a 9V signal to allow it to operate a sky eye
- some satellite receivers come with a 'Loop' out but this just means that you can loop the input signal onto a second box
So what are you options if you wish to run the output to a second TV ?
You add an RF output to a satellite receiver / Digital terrestrial receiver / Video by adding an external modulator which takes a feed from the scart and converts it into RF. It comes in 2 types
- RF Modulator - simply gives an RF output to allow you to view the picture on a second TV through an RF lead (satellite cable)
- Trilink Modulator - also gives a 9V feed to allow you to both view and remotely change the channels from a 2nd location via sky eye
- Note either of these options can be used in conjunction with say a 4 Way Distribution amplifier to allow these to be viewed (remotely operated) in multiple TVs
- You may also need to buy
- Satellite Cable * 1
- Coaxial Connectors * 1-4
- F connectors & joiners * 1-4
