Uses of Outdoor CAT6 Cables
- Used primarily in CCTV applications where high speed networks are used with IP cameras
- Could also be used outdoors to connect adjacent buildings with gigabit networks
- CAT6 cable is shielded so can be ran alongside electrical cable without interference
Advantages of Outdoor CAT6 Cables
- They are low cost
- Their long length cover a very large CAT6 run
- Are compatible with gigabit networks
- Are backward compatible with older networks
- Unterminated means it's easier to pull through walls and ducting
- Can be cut to desired length
- In pure material terms, unterminated CAT6 cable is cheaper then buying pre-terminated cables

Disadvantages of Outdoor CAT6 Cables
- May be too long for some jobs, might need to cut
- CAT6 cables are slightly more expensive than CAT5 cables
- Outdoor FTP CAT6 cables are slightly more expensive than indoor UTP CAT6 due to the sheath having extra protection from the weather and also the having the integrated shielding from electrical interference
